Ronald LeBlanc Obituary

Norwich - Ronald E. "Lefty" LeBlanc, 79, of Norwich, husband of Jeanne (St. Amour) LeBlanc, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.

Lefty had a long career in the paper container manufacturing industry having worked at Robertson Paperbox for many years and was currently the purchasing manager at Atlantic Packaging in Norwich.

He was well known for his involvement with sports as a fastpitch softball player and basketball player and also as the coach of the Al Abraham's baseball team in the Norwich City League for many years.

He was wonderful man with a great sense of humor, who was well known and well loved by many, but most of all, he was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne LeBlanc of Norwich; three sons, Stephen LeBlanc and wife, Sandie, of North Stonington, Daniel LeBlanc and wife, Debra, of Norwich and Kenneth LeBlanc and wife, Lynn, of Oxford; one daughter, Linda Mullin and husband, Sherwin, of Hamden; and several grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Ernest "Jr." LeBlanc.

The funeral will assemble at 8:45 a.m. Friday, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave., Norwich, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 156 Providence St., Taftville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, Thursday, Sept. 12, at the funeral home.

Donations in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church.

Jeanne - You are so right...the words just don't exist to explain how we could both lose the loves of our lives so close together. My heart is broken and it aches for our children. I pray that peace will someday find a place in our hearts.

Dear Mrs. LeBlanc and family -
Please accept my belated sympathies on the passing of your husband, Coach Lefty LeBlanc. As you may recall, I spent most of my time in the Norwich City League as an opponent of Al Abraham's. I can tell you pitching against Lefty's teams - with all the talent he assembled year in, year out -was always a formidable challenge. My recollection is that Lefty was a fierce competitor who loved to win while on the field. Off the field, he was a gentleman - and such a likeable character - as well as a father figure to so many players that player for or against him; he was an institution in that league for so many years. One year, in 1983 as I recall, I had the pleasure to play for Lefty when he assembled an all-star caliber team to play in the Eastern Seaboard Tournament in College Park, Maryland following one of Al Abraham's Chmpionship seasons (I believe in 1983). This was well before many of the college wood bat leagues and I recall the talent level and competition at that tournament was the equivalent of a D-I baseball experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my one-week stay as a pitcher - and during that time established the beginning of a life-long intermittent friendship with your husband when I would see him from time to time over the next 30 years. Lefty was a true baseball guy to the bone. He loved the game beyond words, but more importantly he formed so many relationships over the decades doing something he truly loved. I can't think of anything more admirable.

May God Bless you all during this difficult time. In my view, the loss of Lefty is a huge one to the storied history of Eastern Connecticut Baseball.

Sincerely,

Matthew J. Walker

Condolences to the Le Blanc family. Grew up in Norwich, Lefty was two years ahead of me at NFA. Became involved in softball, certainly not at Lefty's level, but you could ALWAYS count on Lefty as being a class act, regardless of any outcome of any game or situation. He was just a neat guy, and a pleasure to know. God bless.

Mrs. Leblanc and Family:
The Eastern Connecticut Major League extends it deepest sympathy at a very difficult time. Lefty will always be remembered in the ECML as he was a founding member. Lefty was respected by all members and will always be remembered for his leadership on the Executive Board, his competiveness on the Field and most importantly his compassion for all who played.
