Rose and I were students in the metallurgy and materials science department at CMU in the 1970s; she was finishing her BS and I my PhD. We would sometimes get together to discuss homework assignments. My main recollection of her was the kindness she showed in getting the idea for and organizing a going away dinner for me in Pittsburgh after I defended my thesis in Feb 1977. This was so sweet of her. After I left, we met once (during the summer of 1977) when she and her mother were passing through Ohio (where I was working) while she was going on job interviews I believe. Also, we had a brief exchange of emails in 1997. I found a hardcopy of one of these emails today, which prompted me to see what had become of her. After a little searching on the Internet, I came across her obituary. This saddened me much, but I was cheered to see that she had pursued her love of dancing/music and had done work in a correctional facility. In fact, I still have a small present she gave me in 1977, a figure of a man playing the violin. I will cherish her love and kindness always. I hope that she has been re-united with those she loved and am sure she is still looking over her helpmate, sister, and children who are still here.
