Thomas McGovern Obituary
He was born on May 14, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Patrick and Katherine (Fullerton) McGovern.
He is survived by Nina (Pierno) McGovern, his wife of 46 years; his two sons, Michael McGovern of Guilford, and Anthony McGovern of Granby, and their families including four grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Frances (McGovern) Cella, Alice (McGovern) Manning, Michael McGovern, and Anne (McGovern) Coppersmith.
Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a dedicated employee of Pfizer, Inc., where he proudly worked as an electrician for 39 years. He began his Pfizer career in Brooklyn, N.Y., and relocated in 1983, to work in Groton, moving his family from the city to "the country". He was a lifelong learner of his trade and an avid reader and student of history, military, and political subjects.
A service celebrating Thomas' life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic.
The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be considered in Thomas' memory to either the Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut (Norwich) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memphis, TN).

Everytime I drive through Ledyard, I think of Tom..
He trained me at Pfizer and was by far, the best I've ever seen in the trade let alone being a great guy.

Dear McGovern family,
I had the pleasure of working with Tom when I started in the electrical dept. years ago. He was not only an excellent electrician but he was the best teacher I ever had.I learned so much from him not only electrically, but about life in general. My heart is broken. I have always thought about him and I'll never ever forget him.

Mike, Tony, and Families... I am sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I always enjoyed his sense of humor, and his passion for history, willing to engage in a discussion at any time! Dear Nina, we are going to miss seeing Tom walking crazy Gracie down the street and sometimes down our driveway. Blaise and Jade remember the two of you babysitting and Tom letting Blaise drive down Seabury in the BMW when he was 11-years-old. They thought it was the coolest thing that Tom didn't realize Blaise didn't have a license. Please know we are thinking of you and are close by if you need anything at all. Love, the Dessaint family
