Obituary Condolences

New London - Allan H. Atwood, Jr., 56, died quietly in his sleep on May 3, 2010, at his home in New London.

Son of Elizabeth B. Atwood of Topsham, ME, and the late Allan H. Atwood, Sr., he was born on September 16, 1953, in Alexandria, VA.

A graduate of Old Lyme High School in 1971, he attended the University of Connecticut and went on to work at Electric Boat, and later at McLaughlin Research Corporation and General Physics as a technical illustrator.

Allan Atwood was larger than life. He will be remembered for many things, among them his wit and humor, his great generosity, and his passion for life. A gifted artist and avid reader, he also loved entertaining, gourmet cooking, music, the performing arts, and gaming with friends. With his innate wisdom, he mentored many and always gave deeply of himself. He took care to be thoughtful of everyone he knew.

We will sorely miss our son, brother, uncle and friend. And we will always remember his laughter.

In addition to his mother, Allan is survived by one sister, Elizabeth M. Atwood of Redmond, WA, and one brother, Christopher B. Atwood of New London. He also leaves a nephew, Nathaniel A. Hall and wife Holly J. Hall of Lynwood, WA, a niece, Elizabeth C. Hall of Scottsdale, AZ, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life is planned for later in the year.
