Ann Campbell Obituary

Groton - Ann Ruth (Doreschevich) Campbell, of Noank, passed away on May 31, 2010, in the company of her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Tanya (Campbell) Rothenberger, two grandchildren, Charles and Eric Rothenberger and two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Cole Rothenberger.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles B. Campbell, brother, Peter Doroshevich, parents, Peter and Evedokia Doroshevich and two great-grandchildren.

Ann was born on Sept. 25, 1916, in Uncasville. She attended the Montville Grammar School and Williams Memorial Institute in New London. Ann worked as a seamstress before learning to weave from her aunt. She then worked for many years as a weaver, first at Shelton Looms in Uncasville and then at Rossi Velvet Mill in Mystic. She married Charles B. Campbell in 1937, and they settled in Noank.

Ann had the ability to successfully accomplish any task, from teaching herself to play the popular songs of the day on piano as a child to roofing her house in Noank. As a child, she enjoyed spending countless hours in the woods foraging for mushrooms and berries. Ann was a talented seamstress, enjoyed dancing, gardening and antiques, was known for the spectacular pies that she made and shared an appreciation of baseball with her grandson, Eric.

Throughout her life, Ann combined a strong work ethic and a practice of personal thrift with an equally strong and selfless generosity towards anyone with whom she crossed paths. But most of all, Ann was devoted to her family and she served as the focal point of family life. She was unwaveringly supportive of her family, and their successes and accomplishments are owed to her and to the foundation that she provided. Her presence and the example of her life was a source of strength, comfort and inspiration.

She will be remembered fondly and missed by all those who knew her.

Her family will greet relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic and then proceed to a 1 p.m. service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Goroton. Private burial will be at Comstock Cemetery, Uncasville.
