Norwich - Anthony D. Tramontozzi, M.D., 82, died at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

He was born in Norwich, on March 31, 1930, to the late Domenic and Antoinette (Coletti) Tramontozzi. He graduated from NFA and went on to medical school and served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon. After his honorable discharge, he became a general and vascular surgeon dedicating his life's work at The William W. Backus Hospital.

On Oct. 5, 1957, he married his beloved wife, Patricia (Ash), who survives him.

He was active with multiple philanthropic organizations, served as a past trustee of Norwich Free Academy, past chief of surgery, medical staff chairman, and president of the medical staff at Backus Hospital, a member of Knights of Malta, but above all, his greatest love and passion was his family and their well-being.

Besides his wife Patricia, he is also survived by his sons, Mark Tramontozzi and his wife, Mary, and Daniel Tramontozzi and his wife, Colleen, all of Norwich; daughters, Karen Keene and her husband, Parker, of Simsbury, Joni Tramontozzi and her fiancé, Bob Carrignan, of Norwich, and Ann Marie Brennan and her husband, David, of Westfield, N.J.; a sister, Olga Cirillo; and grandchildren, Cara, Anthony, Maura, Michael, James, Andrew, Peter, Sean, Kevin, Kasey, Patrice, and Colin.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Elena Tarka and Lucy Tramontozzi.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, West Town St., Norwich, with interment immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery.
