Stonington - Benjamin J. Coleman Sr., 83, of Pawcatuck, beloved husband of 59 years to Rose (Newton) Coleman, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

Born in Waterford, he was the son of the late George and Dorothy (Havens) Coleman and lived in Pawcatuck since 1963. Ben was employed with the Town of Stonington Highway Department, retiring in 1992. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a life member of the Pawcatuck V.F.W.

Besides his wife, he leaves his seven children, Benjamin J. Coleman and his wife, Yvonne, of Charlton, Mass., James Coleman of Pawcatuck, George Coleman of Westerly, Edwin Coleman and his wife, Cheryl, of Gales Ferry, Nancy Arrell of Pawcatuck, Dorothy Paille and her husband, Joseph, of Casco, Maine and Lori Ryder and her husband, Shawn, of Pawcatuck; brother, Fred Coleman of Voluntown; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1 (51 Williams Ave.), Mystic. Services and burial will be private.
