Mystic - Bettie Konrad, beloved wife and devoted mother, 85, of Jerry Brown Road, formerly of Plant St. in New London, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. She was loved and admired by all her knew her and will be dearly missed.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Aug. 14, 1926, the daughter of Thomas Francis O'Leary and Bessie Emma Baumberger. She married Joseph A. Konrad on Sept. 4, 1948, in St. Raphael Church, Pittsburgh, Pa. Mrs. Konrad graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in New London, a member of the Confraternity of Christian Women and the Thames Yacht Club. She volunteered for the New London Food Coalition and Catholic Charities.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Konrad; her three sons, Michael Joseph Konrad and his wife, Sanne, of Portsmouth, R.I., Marc Vincent Konrad and his wife, Kathy, of Gales Ferry, Matthew Thomas Konrad of Killingworth; her three daughters, Marianne Bessette and her husband, Robert, of Pawcatuck, Meg Konrad of Clinton, Maureen A. Felker of Waterford; her two brothers, Jack O'Leary of Allison Park, Pa., Richard O'Leary of Nashua, N.H.; and her sister, Patricia Wells of Gibsonia, Pa. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Danielle Bessette of Boston, Nicole Bessette Gille of Alaska, Rebekka Konrad of Florida, Kaleen Konrad Childers of Boston, Cpl. William Felker USMC and Devon Felker of Waterford, Kevin Konrad and Allison Konrad of Gales Ferry; and her three great-grandchildren, Maya Konrad of Florida, Gretchen and Wesley Gille of Alaska.
She was pre-deceased by three brothers; and three sisters.
The family is deeply grateful for the special care and attention Bettie received from Avalon Health Center at Stoneridge, Home Health Care Service and local hospitals.
The funeral procession will assemble at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in St. Joseph Church at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Pittsburgh, Pa. at a later date. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
