New London - Carole (Barnette) Fox passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2013, in New London, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born June 8, 1948, in Lenoir, N.C., and grew up there. She had resided in southeastern Connecticut for over 20 years but lived in many states and countries with her military family.

Carole graduated from nursing school in Georgia and worked in that field for many years. However, she devoted most of her life to taking care of her family. She was a cancer survivor and despite many personal struggles, she maintained a good sense of humor and continued to put others first. She was a loving person with a generous nature and a strong spirit.

Carole is survived by her husband, Wayne Carbone; daughter, Betsy (Fox) Hickey; grandchildren, Hailee and Jesse Hickey; mother, Alice Barnette; sisters, Libby, Marie, Shirley, and Susan; and mother-in-law, Rose Carbone. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends around the world who loved her very much.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Barnette.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Funeral service and burial are private.
