Mystic - Charles Joseph Brand, of Overlook Ave., Mystic, died on Aug. 2, 2012, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous struggle with heart disease.
Charlie was born on Nov. 30, 1937, in Newark, N.J., the son of the late Charles A. and Mary (Nosti) Brand. He became a resident of Mystic in 1938 when the family relocated to Connecticut.
He began a business as a self employed building contractor in 1965. His son, Peter later joined him in the family owned business. C.J. Brand and Son, that has been successful for 47 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Jean (Bogue) Brand, who he married on Sept. 7, 1957, at St. Patrick Church, Mystic. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Peter Brand and wife, Victoria, of Stonington; twin daughters, Lisa Sargent and husband, Edward, of East Lyme and Lori Badamo and husband, Edward, of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Megan Sargent, Brittany Badamo, Rebecca Brand, Andrew Badamo, Sarah Sargent, Emily Sargent, Nicole Badamo, and Kevin Sargent; and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was predeceased by two grandsons, Tyler and Connor Sargent; and a sister, Maryann Smith.
Charlie took great pride in his family. When his children and grandchildren came along they were his source of pride and joy.
His family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.on Tuesday at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
