Groton - Cynthia S. Allen, 82, formerly of Sound View Road in Groton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006 at the Beechwood in New London with her family at her side.|
She was born in New London on Jan. 6, 1924 the daughter of Walter F. and Marion May Smith.
She was married in New London on June 1, 1946 to the late Roland D. Allen. Mr. Allen died in 1970.
Mrs. Allen was a graduate of Williams Memorial Institute and the former New London Jr. College, now Mitchell College.
She was formerly employed by the Metropolitan Insurance Co., and had retired in 1997 after 21 years as a secretary for the City of Groton Police Dept.
A member of the Bishop Seabury Church in Groton, she had also been a former Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Altar Guild.
Her survivors include two daughters, Marilee Clabby, of Groton, and Melody Litwin, of Oakdale; two sons, William Allen, of Norwich and James Allen, of Groton; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug 21, at the Bishop Seabury Church in Groton. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.
Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., is in charge of arrangements.
