Waterford - David Edgar, 23, of Waterford, entered eternal life on Oct. 13, 2012.

He was born Oct. 17, 1988, in New London, the son Susan (Colett) Edgar of Waterford and the late Matthew J. Edgar. David attended local schools in Waterford and graduated from Waterford High School, Class of 2006. He was formerly employed at Stop & Shop of Waterford and later for Pezzello Fruit of New London as a driver. In his youth he played baseball for Waterford South Little League and Waterford Babe Ruth. Dave was a proud member of the Waterford Babe Ruth team that competed in 2002 Babe Ruth World Series in New Orleans. He was a serious Red Sox fan and an avid fisherman who enjoyed the serenity and peace of fishing on the Sound and local rivers and ponds. Besides his mother, he is survived by two siblings, Sarah Macrino of New London and Jacob Edgar of Waterford. He also leaves behind his nephews, Jayze Edgar and Elvis Macrino; several aunts and uncles; numerous cousins; and his girlfriend, Christina Bateman.

He was predeceased by his loving grandparents, Katherine and Edward Edgar. Dave lost a trying battle with substance abuse that, in the end, strained even the closest relationships. Friends and family can rest assured that Dave is now truly at peace enjoying the company of his father Matt, whose death significantly affected him. May the memory of the old Dave, with his sincerity and ridiculous sense of humor that would level any audience, shine brightest at this difficult time.

All funeral services are private.

The Imperllitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, has been entrusted with arrangements, which will be private.

The David Edgar Memorial Fund through the Bank of America, 68 Boston Post Road, Waterford, CT 08385, has been established to help defer funeral costs.
