New London - David Hecht, 92, of Coconut Creek, Fla. and New London, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 21, 2012, at the Health Center of Coconut Creek.
He was born in Norwich, on Jan. 4, 1920, the son of Samuel and Esther (Brody) Hecht. David was married to Sylvia (Sheftel) Hecht for 30 years, until her passing in 1977. He later was married to Dorothy (Goldman) Hecht for 30 years, until her passing in 2009.
David was the founder of David Hecht Custom Kitchens of Norwich and later Waterford. He started the business in 1957 and retired in 1987. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a past president of Beth Jacob Synagogue in Norwich and a member of Beth El Synagogue in New London.
David is survived by his son, William Hecht and wife, Eileen Taylor, of Canterbury; daughter, Carol Grant and husband, David Grant, of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; daughter, Amy Hecht and husband, Joe Waters, of San Diego, Calif., and step-daughter, Susan Cohen of Coconut Creek, Fla.; grandchildren, Abram and Julia Hecht, Samantha Riegels and husband, Hans, Jonathan Grant, Zuriel, Gabriel and wife, Anki Waters and Rafael Waters, and Scott Cohen and wife Nicole; and six great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Lauren Cohen, Lucas and Cedric Waters and Bryce and Jasper Riegels.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Beth El Synagogue, 660 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment will be in the Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery, Middle Road, Preston. Visiting hours and shiva will follow at 105 Glenwood Ave., New London.
