East Lyme - David Henry Friez, 69, of Spinnaker Drive, Niantic, died peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at home.

Mr. Friez was born on June 11, 1942, in Waterbury, the son of Henry and the late Mary (Hobbie) Friez. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army. David worked at the Department of Children and Family Services for over 25 years, holding a variety of executive positions. He was a former member of Trinity Church in Old Wethersfield and a current devout member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme. David was an avid fisherman and boater.
Mr. Friez is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his father, Henry Friez; his children, Stacey Biernat of Avon and her husband, Brent, Seana Friez of Bolton; his stepchildren, Kristin Licari of Madison and her husband, Chris, Tamra Hinkemeyer of Illinois and her husband, Jon, and Robert Carangelo of Greenwich and his wife, Cathy; his brother, Peter Friez and wife, Christine, of Ohio; his sisters, Linda Friez of Watertown, Kristan Lanoie of Winsted, and Susan Rustic of Terryville; beloved in-laws, Jim and Sandy Downes of Portland, Conn., and Dr. Robert and Nancy Eagan of California; and nine loving grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme.
