North Stonington - Edward Charles Getty Jr., of North Stonington, passed away in the company of his loving family, on Feb. 17, 2013, at The Westerly Hospital.

Ed was born to Edward Charles Getty Sr., and Mamie (Young) Getty on Sept. 20, 1928, in New London. He lived for many years in Quaker Hill. Ed worked in construction and was a member of the Teamsters Local 493 from which he retired.
In his youth, he hunted, tinkered with old cars, and went berry picking with his brothers and sisters. As a young man, Ed also played softball in the city leagues. He was a great fisherman and avid gardener who grew beautiful vegetables each summer. He sold vegetables out of his garage and met many great people. Ed was a lifetime member of the Quaker Hill Fire Department.
He was predeceased by five brothers, two sisters, and his son, Jeffrey.
He leaves behind his beautiful wife, Carmella; three daughters, Carrie Scheid of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kim Getty of Ashland, N.H., and Jennifer Holt of Sunnyvale, Calif.; step-daughter, Mandy Elliott of Westerly; step-son, Norman Oliver of Westerly; two brothers, Thomas and Bernard Getty; and a sister, Joan Perry. He has eight surviving grandchildren. Ed will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, in the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
