New London - Edward Higgins, 84, of 25 Jennie St., New London, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
The Guest Book is expired.
Edward was born Sept. 22, 1928, the son of Mary Gray of New London.
Mr. Higgins grew up in New London and went on to become a U.S. veteran and then began his career at Electric Boat.
Edward alongside his wife, Helen (deceased 2007), raised their two daughters, Helene and Carol, in Norwich, until they relocated to New London in 1999.
Edward will be remembered as a serious but loving man with impeccable wit and timing, who could draw a smile out of anyone even in the most trying situations. After Edward and Helen raised their own two daughters, they continued to take it upon themselves to play a vital role in raising their four loving grandchildren. Their spirits of selflessness and love will never be forgotten and will live on with all of those they leave behind.
Edward is survived by his daughters, Helene Goumenos and husband, George, of New London, and Carol Green and husband, Robert, of Norwich. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Christos and Vasiliki Goumenos and Thomas and Eileen Green.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Jospeh's Church, New London. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. There are no calling hours.
Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
