Laurens, S.C. - Elayne (Woolridge) Braxton entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 23, 2012, unexpectedly in Laurens, S.C.
She was born on March 21, 1948 in New London, the first of nine children born to the late Ida Mae and Jasper Woolridge. Ms. Braxton attended local schools, graduating from New London High School class of 1966 and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Elayne was employed at Hartford National Bank until the birth of her son, Lonnie Braxton IV who survives her. She was a quiet, gentle, compassionate person who had three loves in her life, God, her son and her family.
Ms. Braxton became a caregiver to many, including an elderly aunt and moved to South Carolina. After the death of her aunt, she chose to remain in Laurens and became a faithful member of New Grove Baptist Church although never forgetting her "home" church, Walls Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in New London.
Along with her son Lonnie, Ms. Braxton is survived by her brother, Peter (Deborah) Woolridge of Elizabeth City, N.C.; and sisters, Brenda (Willie) Allison of Kannapolis, N.C., Carole Lee, Mystic, Jaye Wilson, New London and Rosemarie (Michael) Robinson of Roswell, Ga.; as well as nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Michael Labon, Michael Wayne and Reginald Woolridge.
Elayne will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Cannon Memorial Park Funerals and Cremations of Fountain Inn, S.C. were in charge of cremation arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
