New London - Elizabeth Edith (Alger) Murphy, 90, of 333 Vauxhall St., New London, passed on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the home of her son Michael with whom she lived with, surrounded by her loving family.

Elizabeth was born on Dec. 14, 1922, in Brattleboro, Vt., the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Alger of New London. She was a long time resident of New London, and retired from the Sheffield Tube Company in 1988. She was blessed with eight children, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bingo and reading.
Elizabeth is survived by two sons, Robert Murphy and his wife, Jean, of Montville, and Michael Murphy of New London; five daughters, Patricia Orbe and her husband, Edward, of New London, Mary Fluet of New London, Gayle Brady of Ansonia, Margaret Walsh of New London, and Katherine Thorpe and her husband, Gene, of Voluntown; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Mortimer M. Murphy Jr.; and five siblings, Jeanette Francis, Dorothy Enderly, Rose Bell, Charles and Walter Alger.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Huntington Street, New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Ave., New London.
