Mystic - Ellery P. Viall, 93, of 186 Ocean View Ave., Mystic, died Friday evening, July 20, 2012, at Apple Rehabilitation in Mystic.
He was born in Groton Long Point, on Jan. 7, 1919, the son of Fred P. and Bertha (Pike) Viall.
Mr. Viall worked at Electric Boat in Groton in the woodworking shop and retired in 1981 after 28 years.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and is a veteran of World War II, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theatres in North Africa, Algiers, Oran, and Casablanca. Following his active duty, he was call back to the Army Air Corps Reserves to serve in Hampton, Va.
He was married to the former Elizabeth Furman Viall, who died Nov. 3, 2011.
Mr. Viall and his late wife were both members of the Groton Heights Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer for over 20 years and also taught Sunday School.
He is survived by three daughters, Harriet E. Carroll of Mystic, Leslie A. Morris and husband, David, of Hubbard, Ohio, and Beverly Kopczynski and husband, Michael, of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; andseven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a baby sister, Dorcas Viall.
Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Groton Heights Baptist Church. Calling hours will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church before the service. Burial will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
