Westerly - F. Michael Mangano, 53, of Midway Avenue, Westerly, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 22, 2012.

He was the beloved husband of Mary Lou (Turner) Mangano. His two children, Jeffrey T. Mangano and Katherine E. Mangano, will sadly miss him. He was born in Malden, Mass., on Aug. 26, 1958. He was the loving son of F. Robert "Bob" and Elizabeth "Bette" (Hourihan) Mangano. Michael grew up in Tewkesbury, Mass., and received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Merrimack College and his master's degree in chemistry from the University of New Hampshire.
Mike was employed as a research chemist and project manager at Pfizer for over 29 years. Mike and his family lived in Westerly for the last 23 years. He enjoyed spending time with his children, especially cheering them on at swim meets. They were his pride and joy. Mike also enjoyed coaching local youth sports. His hobbies included golfing, kayaking with his wife, spending time at the beach, and grilling at Seaside Beach Club for his family and friends. He was also a faithful New England sports fan. He was a gentle giant who was loved by all who knew him.
He also leaves his brothers and sister, John Mangano of Merrimack, N.H., Jimmy Mangano and his wife, Maria, of Wilmington, Mass., and Christine Lowenstein and her husband, John, of Winchester, Mass.; and his seven nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Clare Church, 4 St. Clare Way, Westerly, R.I. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, R.I. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery, Beach Street, Westerly.
