New London - George Casey Burleson Sr., of New London, died on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at his home.

He was born on March 8, 1942, in Mitchell County, N.C., the son of Floyd Adam Burleson and Ellie (Pittman) Burleson. He took great pleasure in his cooking and loved to make people happy by preparing good food.
Mr. Burleson was employed for 16 years with Mobil Oil Corp. working on the tug boats (3) and (11) as a chef. He also worked for Jack Tar at The Grove Park Inn, Ashville, N.C. Mr. Burleson also had a catering company that later on led to the opening of his restaurant, The Steamship Restaurant, Marion, N.C. that he ran with his wife and children and various other family members for two years. He also worked at the Riveria Hotel, Las Vegas, Nev. and in various restaurants in Connecticut, and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Mr. Burleson was a jolly man helping people in need whenever he could. All that met him, loved him, and have wonderful memories of good times and the pranks he loved to play. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children, George Jr., Lee Burleson and Laurel Jeanne Holman, all of New London; his brothers, Arvil Burleson of Shelby, N.C. and Lewis Burleson of Old Fort, N.C.; his sister, Frances Rowe of Wilmington, N.C.; his grandchildren, Rocky Deterts Jr., Melanie and Kody Deterts; his great-grandchildren, Joshua, Nathanael and Madison; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a memorial service beginning at 7p.m., at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London.
