We had the pleasure of getting to know Hayden better this summer when he visited Maine over the 4th of July. Such a polite, friendly and happy boy. Our hearts go out to the whole Keating family for their tragic loss. Like to think that he is sitting on his grandfathers knee and both are watching over the entire Keating clan.

Dear Keating family. We are so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Hayden over the summer & saw him one other time with Jake & Justin. His smile was contagious & his wit was amazing. He was such a polite young boy as well. My daughter got to spend time with Hayden at Osprey Beach this past summer when Jake watched Hayden. She couldn't stop talking about him. He will be truly missed by his large family, which will be in our thoughts & prayers.

Dear Larry, Ann Marie, and Hayden's entire Family,
I'm a very old friend of both Larry and Ann Marie. I've done hospice work! I've had this bereavement ministry for many years serving and consoling hundreds in their time of grief.
Typically, I have a basic frame of reference for the loss, but, with this, I am at a complete loss for what to say. Of course, I was at a complete loss when I wrote this poem, too; had never lost a mom before...never experienced a hole in my life that size...with that awful impact, and, so...I believe I understand, to some degree, the hole left behind... regardless forewarning...by anyone so loved; and the grief, it will come...and it will linger... seeming unbearable at times.
Then it will diminish, so slowly as to not even be noticeable.
Never believe it is unnecessary... should be “shrugged off”. Grief is most necessary and must be indulged; it can, however, be tempered just a wee bit by the innate knowledge that the depth of your grief is, too, a yardstick of the love you shared...and the fond, positive impact this life had on yours!
And, so I pray this helps some wee bit...to allow... enable…that grief! Know I am definitely keepin' y'all in fond prayers that Christ hold you close in this trying time!
When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss…inconsolable…she was my mentor! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?" I hold eternity with God a precious, hard-won, and cherished prize...but... in the interim, the answer lies below...and believe me...I understand the tears often are not nearly as casual as this implies!
SELFISH TEARS
(I eulogize my beloved mother - March, 1989)
Today we cry...must admit they're selfish tears.
You see...our faith assures your journey's done.
But it's not for you we mourn, at all, my dear;
It's for those of us you've left behind...alone!!!
We share your joy...share your happiness at rest,
Your painful fears now for forever stilled.
You've fought the good fight, passed the final test,
But you've left behind a hole that can't be filled!!!
So, until we each rejoin you some someday,
And, while your memory buoys us through those years,
We'll miss you...but continue on our way,
And, from time to time, we'll cry our selfish tears!!!
Ray Hamilton (c) March 19, 1989

I am sooo sorry for your loss. Hayden was a very lucky boy to have been part of such a large loving, caring family. Makes no sense why a sweet little boy needs to leave his family when he had so much more to accomplish with his DAD, Grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins. Continue to stay a close family to help you all through this terrible time.

Although we did not personally know Hayden, he was obviously be loved by so many. My heart breaks for his parents, his family and young friends. He will live in your hearts forever.

We were deeply saddened at the sudden passing of Hayden. Unfortunately, there are no words that will ease the enormous amount of pain and loss that you must be experiencing. Our son knew Hayden through sports, particularly through mid-day kickball games at school. As parents, occurances of this nature, ignite an immediate ache in our hearts. A candle burns in front of Our Lady at St. Joseph's Church in Hayden's memory, with the intention that She watch over Hayden in Heaven as well as his family that remains in this world. Thinking of you at this extremely difficult time - Tim, Susan, and Hunter MacDuff.

God's Lent Child
I'll lend you for a little while a child of mine, God said,
For you to love him while he lives, and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years, or forty-two or three;
But will you, till I call him back, take good care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll have the lovely memories as a solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return;
But there are lessons taught below I want this child to learn.
I've searched the whole world over, for teachers kind and true;
And from the throngs that crowd life's lane I have chosen you...
Now will you give him all your love? Nor think the labor pain?
Nor hate me should the angels call, to take this child back again?
To which the parents did reply...
Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joys thy child will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may...
for all the love this child will bring,
forever grateful we will stay.
But should the Angels call for him,
much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.

To Pat, Susie and loving family,
The moment that I met Hayden on Pacific Street, I knew he was a special kid. I am so blessed to have known his spirit for life and all that it held for him. A treasured memory will be of him shooting baskets with Jack every morning in the gym always making sure that a much younger student was included. I, like countless others, will miss that smiling face terribly. May your memories bring you comfort.
With deepest sympathy,

We will forever remember Hayden & so saddended by this loss in our lives. He was a beautiful part of our Smith family. He was always loving, embracing, kind, & wanted to be with his cousins anytime we were back east. He made us feel special when truly, he was the one that was special. He made us laugh spontaniously, smile,& I loved when we would sit & he would talk to us about his dreams, things he was up to, & his favorite things to do. I will forever remember all the fun he had w/our 4 kids. I am so happy our children got to know their cousin Hayden! We love him, will miss him & were blessed to have him in our lives. We will carry those memories always! He is now our angel!We offer our condolences to Pat & Susie who loved Hayden with all their hearts. Pat & Hayden 2 buddies who enjoyed their father/son time & were great together. To Susie who took Hayden into her loving care & gave him a motherly nurturing love that touched his life. Pat & Susie you both are loved & being prayed for during this difficult time. Hayden was a blessing & you both blessed him. May our prayers give you strength and comfort you! Love you, Gigi
