Montville - Helen Mae Austin, 79, of Park Ave., Uncasville, died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.
Mrs. Austin was born in New London, on Jan. 19, 1927, the daughter of Ernest and Mabel McIntosh.
She was raised in Waterford and was a 1946 graduate of Chapman Technical High School in New London. She earned her RN degree from the Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing and began her nursing career as a public health nurse in Waterford. After raising her family, she was a school nurse for the Montville school system for many years, retiring in 1983.
She married the love of her life, Frank W. Austin on July 14, 1951, in New London. He predeceased her on Jan. 15, 2005, and her family finds great comfort in knowing that they are together again.
Helen was a lifetime member of the Mohegan Fire Company Auxiliary and enjoyed working Bingo on Friday nights. She was proud of her extensive rose garden and loved collecting butterflies and angels. She also treasured spending time with her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her devoted family, Nancy Chederquist and her husband, Mac, of Waterford, Cheri Moore and her husband, Dave, of Rocky Hill, Susan Creamer and her husband, David, of North Stonington, and Barbara Pieniadz and her husband, Bill, of Oakdale. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Michael Chederquist and his wife, Dawn, Amy Chederquist, Ryan and Kelly Moore, Carolyn, Jill, and Joshua Creamer, Sam and Leah Pieniadz; and her precious great-grandson, Marcus Chederquist. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Russell Bailey of Derby, Kans.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her beloved son, David C. Austin.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment will follow in Comstock Cemetery in Montville. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at the funeral home.
