Groton - Helena (Farnham) Santacroce, 95, of 74 Chapman St., Groton, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Fairview in Groton.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1917, in Pasumpsic, Vt., the daughter of John and Loraine Farnham. Helena was married to the late Joseph V. Santacroce on Mar. 17, 1942 in North Troy, Vt. Joe died on Nov. 24, 1974. A graduate of the St. Johnsbury (Vt.) Academy, she then went on to the Hartford Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1938. Following her graduation, she began her working career as a registered nurse at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. Helena then worked for five* years in industrial nursing at the Electric Boat Company in Groton; and then, for many years, as the office manager and nurse for A. Duncan MacDougall, MD until they both retired in the late 1980's.
She was a member and avid golfer at the Shennecossett Golf Club in Groton; and enjoyed bowling for many years. She was also a member of the Electric Boat Athletic Club. Travelling, needlepoint, reading and quilting were also among her many interests.
Her survivors include her son-in-law, Raymond Bromberek of Groton; her granddaughter, Paula Edwards, also of Groton; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Helena had also been predeceased by her daughter, Loraine Bromberek; and a granddaughter, Lisa Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Groton Congregational Church, 162 Monument St., Groton. Her burial will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton.
