Westerly - Henry J. "Cookie" Laudone Sr., 88, (Ret. Lt. Westerly Police Department) died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.

He was the beloved husband of Sophie (Hoiniski) Laudone. Sadly, she predeceased him on Feb. 3, 2004. Born in Bradford, R.I., he was the son of the late Columbia Margaret (Terranova) Ward and John H.F.Ward.

Henry was a proud member of the Westerly Police Department retiring with the rank of lieutenant. He was a graduate of the Westerly High School Class of 1942, where he had been an outstanding football and baseball player. He received his associate's degree in criminal justice, at the age of 52, from Salve Regina College in Newport, R.I.

He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant before he was honorably discharged. While serving in China, Burma and India, he was awarded the bronze star for actions over and above the call of duty. He was a life member of the Westerly Elks and the Calabrese Club and loved playing cards with his friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow.

Henry will be sadly missed by his two sons and their wives, Henry and Maura Laudone Jr. and Bob and Gina Laudone, all of Westerly. He was the loving grandfather, "Nanutz", of Rebecca Laudone, of Boston, Mass., and Bobby, Rachel and Kate Laudone, all of Westerly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Ave., Misquamicut, RI. There will be no cortege from the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.
