Waterford - James DeMarco, 79, of Quaker Hill, passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, after a long illness.

James, who was born in Jewett City, on March 4, 1933, to Joseph and Camilla (laLima) DeMarco, was known throughout the area as a premier auto executive and the owner of the former Suburban Ford Lincoln-Mercury in Westerly, as well as general manager at the former Linder Motors in New London. He also was a musician of note, having recorded as a member of Davy Jones & the Dolphins and continued to perform as a singer and saxophonist throughout the area until his illness prevented him from doing so. In the 1970s, he was the owner of The Maple Root Inn in Coventry, R.I., and DeMarco's Maple Root Inn, located in Uncasville.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Vesole, and also was a member of the VFW, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Musician's Union.

James is survived by his children, James DeMarco Jr., David DeMarco, Robert De-Marco, Debra Serra, Donna DeMarco, Crystal Yanko and their families; his brother, Louis DeMarco; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ida DeMarco; his sons, Joseph DeMarco and Rick Stemrich; and his brother, Alexander DeMarco.
