Montville - James H. Roy, 84, of Uncasville, died peacefully at New London Rehab & Care of Waterford, on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, after an extended illness.

He was born in Stonington, on Sept. 12, 1928, son of the late John and Edna (Hadlock) Blanchard. He graduated from Stonington High School where he was very athletic, participating and excelling in many sports. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country until his honorable discharge.
On Sept. 3, 1955, at St. John Church in Uncasville, he married his bride, Viola Deshefy, who survives him.
He worked at Electric Boat in many capacities, retiring as a manager.
Jim played golf and bowled and was a member of the Norwich Golf Club and the Seaside Beach Club of Westerly. He was active in Montville Little League, creating one of the fields which was named after him.
He is survived by his wife Viola; his sons, Mark J. Roy, Bruce Roy and his wife, Catherine; grandchildren, Kelsie, Samantha, Amanda, and Carly; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his sister, Mary Hines.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 8, at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, meeting directly at St. John the Evangelist Church, Maple Ave., Uncasville. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich.
