North Franklin - Janna (LaPierre) Lawless passed away early Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, after an extended battle with cancer. Throughout her last month, she received an abundance of loving care and company from family and friends. Her life ended peacefully with her family by her side.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born Aug. 26, 1948, in Hartford, the only daughter and child of the late Dr. Warren W. LaPierre and Frances (Johnson) LaPierre. She grew up on Ox Hill Road in Norwichtown, and graduated high school from Norwich Free Academy in 1966. She went on to receive her bachelor's in nursing from Boston University in 1971. As a young adult, Janna enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and across the United States.
In 1973 she met her husband Michael Lawless, while working together at Connecticut Valley Hospital. They were married April 11, 1976 in Portland. He survives her. Throughout her career as a registered nurse, Janna provided home care in the field of public health nursing, working in the Middletown, Willimantic, and Hartford areas. She later shifted her nursing focus to end-of-life care, most recently employed by Hospice Southeastern Connecticut.
She had a great love and compassion for animals, having left four dogs and two cats of her own. Her caring nature compelled her to adopt several shelter dogs throughout her life. She loved gardening, going to the beach, and especially loved vacationing in Cape Cod and upstate New York. She shared her mother's interest in collecting antique books, furniture, and jewelry. Janna often spoke of the simple joys in her life like driving her car, watching birds at the feeder, or favorite sci-fi television shows. She always looked forward to spending time with her friend and hairdresser, Amy. Above all, Janna was a dedicated daughter, wife, and mother giving the majority of her time and energy to the health and happiness of her loved ones.
In addition to her husband Michael, she is survived by her daughter, Devon Lawless and her boyfriend, Gabe Fillion; her son, Timothy Lawless, his wife, Elaine, and their daughter, Ellie Claire; her stepdaughter, Heather Lawless; and stepson, Michael Lawless, his wife, Laura, and their daughter, Lydia. As an only child, lifelong friends and co-workers became sisters to Janna. She also leaves behind life-long friend, Bonnie Levanto; very dear friend, Cele Frank; and loved co-worker, Vinessa Job.
She is predeceased by her great friend, Debbie Kalwara.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the Church and Allen Funeral Home in Norwich. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Church and Allen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
