Jason Lanoue Obituary

Ledyard - Jason C. Lanoue of Gales Ferry. Heaven has gained another angel on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 at 4:00 a.m. in Yale-New Haven Hospital. Jason passed away surrounded by his family, holding the hands of his son and his momma. At 43, his time was cut short but he won his battle.

Jason was a Ledyard High School graduate in the Class of 1991. He played many sports but wrestling was his passion. He won many awards and was a two time New England champion, outstanding wrestler. He later received a wrestling scholarship to Syracuse University.

Jason was the head coach at Ledyard High School for two years and also the Jr. High team. He still helped train many of the future high school teams. He is remembered by so many of these young men as "Coach".

Every year Jason looked forward to his camping trip with his son, Jacob and longtime friend Jeff, and he never missed out on the yearly family camping trip to Lake George.

We will all miss you everyday, son, father, brother and uncle. Love you.

Jason is survived by his parents, Gerard and Gloria (Edwards) Lanoue; son, Jacob Lanoue; brother, Jay Lanoue; sister, Rachel Pratt, her husband Micheal and their children, Rachel Lynn and Aiden. He also leaves behind his maternal grandmother, Marjorie Bonville.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 2, 2016, at Old Mystic Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for Jason's son Jacob's education to Putnam Bank, 2 Chapman Lane #13, Gales Ferry, CT 06335.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of Jason. It was amazing to watch him wrestle. Through my years coaching, since being an assistant at Ledyard, I used Jason as an example of how even the best work hard at practice and make their teammates better. Although I only saw him once since his high school days, he will be missed.

My best to the family,
Rob Austin

Gerry, Gloria and Family,
So sorry for your loss. Jason and I shared some very special times together and created memories that we both cherished. He was clearly the most gifted and talented wrestler I ever coached. He made me proud as a coach and continued to be a valuable asset to me during my coaching years at Ledyard. Ledyard wrestling was so dear to Jason. He will be missed by the Ledyard wrestling community. Unfortunately, I am on vacation and will not be able to attend the service. God bless all of you!

My family and I offer our condolences, I wrestled at Law and we would compete against Ledyard every year so I was able to watch Jason wrestle not only in a duals but also at States. We were teammates briefly in College after Syracuse dropped their program and Jason was at Southern Ct. I remember him best though when he was coaching at Ledyard and we would talk while at the Class M's or when we would attend the Watkins Duals. Matt Schoonmaker /Jonathan Law Wrestling
