She was employed by the Harbor Defense of Long Island Sound in New London, from January 1944 until the end of World War II. She was also an executive secretary at Robertson's for many years and worked at Faria. Jennie's favorite role was as homemaker and mother, having raised six wonderful children with her beloved husband, Jumbo.

Jennie was a communicant of St. John's Church in Uncasville and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. Besides her family, she loved polka dancing, baking, making crafts, and was an avid Red Sox fan.

She is survived by her sons, Leopold A. Szczygiel Jr. (Beverly), Lindsey L. Szczygiel (Lori), and Leonard A. Szczygiel (Jacqueline); and daughters, Lynette S. Crowley (John), Lori S. Thiel (William), and Lucienne S. Barlow (Michael). Jennie was a loving "Babci" to her 14 grandchildren and three great-grandsons. A sister, Veronica Smolen and a brother, Joseph Yacinsky, survive her.

She was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
