New London - On July 27, 2012, Jose "Papi" Martinez Del Valle passed away peacefully after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Zenaida "Zeny" Martinez; three sons, Tedman David Martinez, Henry Martinez, and Jose Rene Martinez; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sister, Angel, Alfredo, and Alicia, who live in Puerto Rico.
Jose served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an anti-aircraft artillery searchlight operator and was awarded several medals of honor for distinction in the service.
