Mystic - Kathleen Ann (Mejza) Alvarez, 58, of Mystic, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
Kathy is the beloved wife of 30 years to Ronald Alvarez. She also leaves behind her daughter, Alicia Marie Alvarez of San Diego, Calif. and her son, Johnathan James Alvarez of Mesa, Ariz.
Born in Bermuda and raised in Gales Ferry, Kathy was the daughter of Helen Mejza-Tew of Gales Ferry and the late Conrad Mejza. Kathy has lived with her family in Mystic for the last 18 years. She graduated from Three Rivers Community College in 1991 as a registered nurse, and worked as an ICU nurse, organ transplant nurse, and health case manager during her career.
Kathy enjoyed spending time at her second home in Tucson, Ariz. She liked to travel, ski, and garden. Her cherished memories include family trips to Disney World every year.
In addition to her husband, mother and children, she leaves behind her brothers, Michael, Conrad, Stephen, Patrick, and Danny Mejza; sister, Carleen Mejza; her father-in-law, Ralph Alvarez and his wife, Joan; and her brother-in-law, Gary Alvarez.
Her family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic (51 Williams Ave.) Burial will be private.
