Kathy Minzy Obituary

Plainfield - On May 15, 2010, at approximately 1:11 p.m., Kathy Lynn Kelsey Ezzel Minzy, of 300 Black Hill Rd., Plainfield, passed from this earth to other spiritual levels leaving her body surrounded by family and friends.

Kathy was born on Jan. 20, 1955, in Groton, to Tom and Eleanor Kelsey, both of whom predeceased her.

Kathy achieved much during her 55 years graduating from N.F.A., Mohegan Community College, Eastern CT College and Bay Path University, always overachieving at every level. She received her nursing degree while raising a child and working maintaining her "honor" status throughout. She chose psychiatric nursing as her specialty and spent 32 years caring for patients at the Norwich State Hospital, Valley Hospital, and finally South Eastern Mental Health Authority. Kathy touched the hearts and souls of patients and co-workers alike. Kathy loved traveling the world, gardening, antiques, chickens and blues music.

Kathy will be sadly missed by many people including her fiancé, Mark Lineweber, daughter, April Samoker; son, Kyle Minzy; sisters, Sonnie Bresnan and her husband, Sid, and Wendy Corrigan; brothers, Sid Bresnan and Todd Bresnan; granddaughters, Torrie and Madison Samoker; and her special friend and pet, "Tootsie", along with many friends.

Calling hours with an informal service will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Connecticut Humane Society or Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut.

Please sign the online guestbook, leave a memory, and view the movie at www.churchandallen.com.

Kathy, you will be missed by everyone who knew you. I watched and learned much from you as my Head Nurse. Our lives at CVH are impacted by each other and your impact was huge, you demonstrated to everyone how to be a patient advocate, you taught that everyone has value no matter their circumstances. You were wise and compassionate...I will miss terribly knowing that someone as dedicated and filled with grace as you were is gone from this particular existance...

Mark, April and Kyle,
Kathy was special person that was just plain nice to be around. Always remember that that she loved you all. If you need a hug, a smile or words of encouragement they aren't any farther than a thought away. Right there where she left them.

Dear Mark, Sonnie and children and grandchildren, I've known Kathy since she was a little one and her cousin Sherry and I used to babysit her. She lost her Mom at a young age and her sister Sonnie became her 'Mom' after that and adored her. She came to work with us at Norwich Hospital and was a wonderful nurse. And then at CVH. She was always a bright star in everyone's life and always was happy to see you. She is a good soul and will be missed but we will all see you again one day.

Kathy Was a great friend. We love Kathy dearly. Having a Bowling team with Kathy on it was wonderful. Having Kathy work in the education department at Norwich Hospital was great and watching her grow educationally showed you her great determination. Going on a weekend with Kathy and Mike to Cape Cod to listen to Big band music was heavenly. Kathy was and will always be one of the truest examples of the wonderful family at Norwich Hospital. Mark, and all of Kathy's family our deepest love and respect. Love Brian and Meliss Swanson.

Dear Mark & family: I loved Kathy very much & I will miss her. She had so much compassion for people & for her profession. She was my "backbone" @ work because of her kindness, thoughtfulness & awesome organizational skills. She went beyond her call of duty. Kathy & I both shared a love for flowers, especially hydrangea. So, I will always think of Kathy when I see them, which will be often because they're in my yard. Kathy will always be close to me & that gives me joy & peace. Mark & children, I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. You are in my thoughts & prayers.
