New London - Louis M. Cerreto, 100, of New London, entered eternal life on Sept. 30, 2012.|
He was born Nov. 11, 1911, in New London, the son of Italian immigrants, Michael and Marianna (Cannata) Cerreto.
He was united in marriage to the former Marianna Krysiewicz on April 27, 1935, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Mrs. Cerreta died Feb. 5, 1993.
Mr. Cerreto retired from Penn Central Railroad as a conductor in 1974, having started when it was the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. He was a 55-year member of The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Unit Transportation Union. He was also a member and secretary and treasurer of the former Nameaug Engine Co. #2 in New London, a member of the New London Lodge of Elks # 360, New London Senior Citizens, AARP Chapter # 1466, and the Dante Alighieri Society.
He is survived by a son, Michael Cerreto of New London; a brother, Sabastian Cerreto of Putnam; a sister, Rose Cerreto of New London; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by seven siblings, Joseph, Benjamin, Thomas, and James Cerreto, Phyllis Bonnano, Mary Perry, and Connie Pongetti.
His family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 11 a.m. on Thursday and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Quaker Hill. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New London.
