Madeline Yolanda Abate Obituary
Montville - Madeline Yolanda Abate, 83, of Uncasville, died Nov. 22, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

She was born March 16, 1930, in New Haven, the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Falcone) Esposito. Madeline was a graduate of Hillhouse High School and New Haven State Teachers College, Class of 1952, with a degree in special education. She taught special education in New Haven until her marriage at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in New Haven, in June 1953.

The Abate family made their home in Uncasville in August 1960, where they raised their family. In addition to her career as a loving wife and mother, Madeline was very active at St. John's R.C. Church in Uncasville as a member of the Rosary Altar Society and St. John's Couples Club. For many years she provided religious instruction to the exceptional children at St. John's and as a volunteer at the Waterford Country School. She was a loyal supporter of St. Bernard High School, where all of her children matriculated.

Madeline was known for her craft and decoration skills. She beautified the environment of many dances and wedding receptions in the Uncasville community, until her health began to fail.

She was a proud mother of eight children, Mark, Michael, Margaret, Teresa, Maria, Christopher, Steven, and Paul. Madeline was the proud grandmother of grandsons, Christopher, Patrick, Dylan, Austin, Matthew and granddaughters, Elizabeth, Danielle, and Michaela. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Richard A. Abate.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Maria and her son, Paul.

Her life touched many people. She was always patient and kind, never rude, selfish, boastful, conceited, or resentful. She was always ready to give, to trust, and to endure whatever came her way. Madeline was a role model to all. First and foremost, she was a loving wife and mother.
