New London - Maria Teresa Flores, 82, returned to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, with her loving daughter by her side.
The Guest Book is expired.
"Tessie", as she was affectionately known, was born on Jan. 26, 1931, in Anasco, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Jose and Josefa (Feria) Perez.
She divided her time on this earth living between her beloved Puerto Rico and her second home, New London. While residing in Puerto Rico, Tessie was a member of the Legion Reina de los Apostoles, visiting those in need within her community. While residing in New London, Tessie worked for more than 30 years as a dietary aide at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. Her position there afforded her the opportunity to continue comforting and serving those in need.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in New London and a member of St. Jude Women's Club. Her devotion to God was made evident by her strong desire to serve others, her generous and forgiving nature, and the compassion she showed toward all who crossed her path. She modeled these and other Christian values in her everyday life. She had a beautiful spirit and will be missed by all who knew her.
Tessie has been reunited with her late husband of 54 years, Emilio Flores.
She is survived by her brother, Augustine Vidal of Anasco, Puerto Rico; her two children, Carmen Keller of Uncasville and Jose Flores of Waterford; as well as her three grandsons, Jacob Punzalan of Philadelphia, Pa., Shaun Punzalan of Niantic, and Jason Reynolds of Norwich. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Kai Punzalan, who affectionately referred to her as "Beda".
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Huntington Ave., New London. The burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London.
