North Stonington - Maurice Eugene Bromley, 84, beloved husband for 59 years of Christa (Schellmann) Bromley, of Norwich Westerly Road, North Stonington, passed away at his home on Dec. 9, 2012.

Born in North Stonington, he was the son of the late Maurice L. and Edith Bromley.

Eugene worked as a machinist for Bostitch for 48 years, until his retirement. He served in Germany for three years as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. In addition, he was a life member of the North Stonington Grange #138, joining at the age of 14, and was the recipient of the Granger of the Year 2012 from the Connecticut State Grange. He was also a member of the North Stonington Agricultural Fair and a charter member of the North Stonington Fire Department. Maurice had also received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the North Stonington Lions Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Alfred M. Bromley and wife, Carol, of Ferguson, Mo.; two daughters, Rosemarie Mulholland and her husband, Kevin, of Clemont, Fla., and Ingrid E. Bushwack of North Stonington; and two sisters, Meredith Pappadia and husband, Joe, of Westerly and Cecile McGrath of Gales Ferry. Eugene will also be missed by his four grandchildren, Genevieve, Sam, Colleen, and Brendan, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A visiting hour will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, immediately followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 12 noon. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery, North Stonington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Stonington Grange Scholarship Fund, c/o Nancy Weissmuller, 230 Wintechog Hill Road, North Stonington, CT 06359, in Eugene's memory.
