Olin Dwire Obituary

Groton - Olin L. Dwire, 81, of Buddington Road and formerly of Niantic, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the Groton Regency with his family by his side.

Mr. Dwire was born on March 12, 1928, in in Hooksett, N.H., the son of Carroll and Rose Dwire. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

He married Ethelyn Howard on June 24, 1950, in Niantic. He was employed for over 29 years by Montsanto/Silgan Plastics until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Dwire was a former member of the Niantic Fire Department. Olin loved watching birds from his window which gave him much pleasure on a daily basis.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Dwire is survived by his four sons, Roy Dwire of Florida, James and his spouse, John Toomey, of Bolton, Edward and his wife, Nancy Dwire, of North Carolina, and John "Jack" and his wife, Darlene Dwire, of Niantic; his two daughters, JoAnn and her husband, Woodland Scott, of Glastonbury and Patricia and her husband, Roger Sabourin, of Middlefield; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-n-law, Patricia Howard of Niantic and two nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Dwire and daughter-in-law, Loretta Dwire.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2010, in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic. Interment will be private. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

In leiu of flowers, donations may be in his memory to Hospice Southeastern Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich CT 06360 or the Groton Animal Control, c/o the Groton Police Dept., 68 Groton Long Point Road, Groton CT 06340.
