East Lyme - Raymond Earl Hyland Jr., 62, of Niantic, died unexpectedly on June 30, 2012, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, after being stricken ill at home.

He was born in Hartford, on April 22, 1950, the son of Raymond and Lela (Tetro) Hyland.
He married Maureen (Weber) Hyland on June 6, 1970; she survives him.
Mr. Hyland had been employed at the former Fountainview Convalescent Home in Waterford, where he retired in 2011. He was an avid fisherman and loved the water, especially out on the boat with his son, son's friends, and neighbor, Matt K. He also liked to travel with his wife and best friends, Kenny and Nancy Fenton, as well as spend time with all his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Raymond E. Hyland III and Sarah of East Lyme; two daughters, Renee Chaplin and her fiancÃ©, Eric Bemis, and Christy Rand, both of Uncasville; two brothers, Scott Hyland of Groton and Mark Hyland of Jenson Beach, Fla.; sons-in-law, Arthur Chaplin of Uncasville, Mike Previti of Colchester, and Tim Rand of Niantic; nine grandchildren, Jamie, Daniel, Taylor Chaplin, Zachary and Tyler Rand, Gianna Previti, Lela Hyland, Krista and Kyle Bemis; as well as two nieces, Lela Hughis and her husband, Jeffrey, and their two sons, Grant and Jeffrey Jr., Kelley Hyland and her daughter, Nataylah.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, at Gorton Lake Pond Beach in Niantic. Friends and relatives are welcome to stop by to pay respects or join the family in the barbeque.
Funeral services are private. There are no calling hours.
