Waterford - Richard F. "Dick" Drake, 71, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1940, in Bronx, N.Y., to the late Wesley and Marion (Martin) Drake. He was married to the former Dianne DeGaetano on Jan. 13, 1961. They enjoyed 33 years together before she predeceased him on Sept. 16, 1994. Dick worked in several capacities for Pfizer, Inc., retiring after 33 years of service in 2000 as a facilities manager. He also worked as an electrician for many years, providing electrical services for many commercial and private clients. He was a jack of all trades, and was always willing to help anyone with a remodeling project or a deck, even if compensation was a cold Bud Light.

After retirement, Dick worked part time at Essex Steam Train. He shared his father's passion for the railroad and it was a lifetime interest. He was also passionate about cars, traveling New England to attend car shows and watching the NASCAR races. He was a member of the Quinebaug Valley Engineers Association and enjoyed the camaraderie at the events at Zagray Farm in Colchester.

He is survived by his son, Scott and his wife, Diana, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; his daughter, Kimberly Sullivan and her husband, Bill, of Colchester. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Marisa and Anna Sullivan, and Dylan Drake. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their sporting, school and music events. He is also survived by two sisters, Marion Drake, of Westminster, Colo., Elizabeth Zappacosta of Carmel, N.Y.; and one brother, Everett Drake, of Campbell Hall, N.Y.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Bob, Lew, and Wesley Drake; as well as one sister, Sybil Domini.

The family would like to thank Mary Ann Proctor, his companion, for the wonderful care and support she gave Dick. The compassion and love she provided to him was exceptional.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
