Richard Piscitello Obituary

New London - Richard Piscitello passed away while taking a walk with his dog, Ridley, near Fort Davis, Tex., where they had gone to find sunshine, the annual "winter wander".

He was born in New London, to Josephine and Salvatore Piscitello.

Richard discovered Thoreau in high school and heard a different drummer the rest of his life. He was a "stay at home dad" before the term was invented. He took great care of his family, loved a vigorous argument, and a good dinner with family and friends. He could fix practically anything and did nearly all the work on our old house himself. He went to sea, or as he put it, to see, as a young man and did indeed linger in the world's pleasant places.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sandra of Seattle, Wash., his daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law, Nihad Delic of Puyallup, Wash.; and by his sisters, Marie Hutchison and Vivian Straub (Victor) of Connecticut.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Robert.

A memorial service was held Feb. 23, 2010, in Seattle. A gathering for family and friends will be held in Connecticut during the fall, Richard's favorite New England season.

Remembrances may be made to your local food bank or to Grand Companions (shelter) P.O. Box 1156, Fort Davis, TX 79734, in gratitude for their care of Ridley.

"...being a haphazard loiterer about the world and prone to linger in its pleasant places..." Washington Irving.
