Mystic - Robert A. DeVeau Sr., 73, of Mystic, beloved husband of 51 years to Sandra (Ashbey) DeVeau, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Spaulding Hospital in Cambridge, Mass.

The son of the late Ambrose and Mary (Barnes) DeVeau, Bob was a lifelong Mystic resident. A graduate of Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School, he also attended local colleges. He was employed at Davis-Standard for 40 years before retiring in 2001.
Throughout his life, Bob was very active in the local community. Over the years, he was a Justice of The Peace who officiated at hundreds of weddings across the region. He was a life member of the Mystic Hook & Ladder Co. and Mystic Fire Police, a life member of the Groton Lodge of Elks #2163, a member of Union Baptist Church, a former member of the Groton RTM, and a member of the Connecticut National Guard.
Bob was an accomplished classical pianist. He also enjoyed entertaining family and friends, gardening, and refurbishing old homes.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his three children, son, Robert A. DeVeau Jr. and his companion, Linda Hall, son, Timothy DeVeau and his wife, Tabitha, and daughter, Michele DeVeau, all of Mystic; brother, Ambrose DeVeau and his wife, Martha, of Ledyard and Zephyrr Hills, Fla.; sister, Eva Hildebrand of Mystic; five grandsons, Benjamin, Max, and Jacob Bundesmann, Finnian and Teddy DeVeau; two step grandchildren, Alden and Samantha D'Amico; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Fritz.
He was predeceased by a sister, Yvonne Houle and a brother, Bernard DeVeau.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic. There are no calling hours.
