Waterford - Robert Leland Bachman, 89, of Waterford, passed away on Monday evening, Dec. 10, 2012, at Bride Brook in East Lyme.

He was born in Decatur, Mich., on Oct. 17, 1923, the son of Charles and Frances (Tagney) Bachman.
Robert was married to Claudia Stewart on May 11, 1946, in Norwich, and she survives.
Robert was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and had been a history teacher at Waterford High School for many years. He authored "The History of Waterford". He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and his master's degree from Western Michigan College. An archive of his research on the War of 1812 is held at the New London Maritime Museum.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charles A. Bachman and a sister, Leona M. Bachman.
A private graveside service will be held at Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. There are no visiting hours.
Byles Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
