Jewett City - Rudy M. Mackin "Connecticut Blue EyesÂ®", 74, died unexpectedly at Hartford Hospital on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.|
Born on June 6, 1937 in Norwich, he was the son of the late Walter M. and Sophie (Arabik) Mackin. A lifelong resident of Jewett City, Rudy attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Griswold High School, class of 1955. He served honorably in the Army National Guard, stationed at Fort Drum in upstate New York. Rudy married Rose Marie Manuzzi on July 16, l958. For many years he owned and operated Mackin Recreational Enterprises. In his later years, he was a sales executive for several local auto dealerships until his retirement.
He was a steadfast fan of Frank Sinatra and so began his karaoke career. "Connecticut Blue EyesÂ®" quickly amassed a great following of his own fans and was often requested to perform at various local functions in the Norwich-New London area. His singing talents brought rave reviews at Sinatra Park in Hoboken, N.J. where he honored "Ol' Blue Eyes" on his birthday.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years; daughter, Cynde; son, Jason; and daughter-in-law, Danette Mackin. He also leaves behind his beloved three grandsons with whom he spent much of his time, Mark Alan Mackin, Dustyn Mackin, and Alexander Michael Mackin; three brothers, Guy W. of Farmington, James B., and Gregory T., both of Voluntown; sister, Elaine (Mackin) Cote of Jewett City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Richard S. and Daniel P. Mackin.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Leffler Funeral Home, 30 North Main St., Jewett City. The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Leffler Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Jewett City. There is no interment.
