New London - Ruth Ampania, 65, of Maple Av., passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.|
Ruth was born Nov. 26, 1946, in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of the late Indio and Martha (Ortiz) Martinez. For more than 27 years, Ruth worked as a home health aide. She tenderly cared for more than 1,000 clients at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, local nursing facilities such as Mary Kenny nursing home, and in their personal homes, under the management of Utopia/Mariner Home Health Care Co. Her gentleness and kindness enabled Ruth to lovingly care for the ill with such grace and compassion.
She was a faithful member of St. Joseph's church and enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, and sudoku. You could always find her in a friendly competitive game with her children and grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her children, Ruthaleen Suarez of Quaker Hill, Grace Schmidt and husband, Scott, of Coram, N.Y., Robert Suarez of New London, Steven Ampania and wife, Danielle, of Norwich; two sisters, Jenny Cruz of Bronx, N.Y. and Angelina Cruz of Norwich; and the true joy of her life, her grandchildren, Elaina Donley, Kilee-Ann Ampania, Joseph McClurg, and Jacob Schmidt.
She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Ampania; and brother, Jorge Cruz.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at St. Joseph's Church, 17 Squire St., New London. Entombment of her cremains will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, Jefferson Ave., New London.
