Mystic - Sandra (Cohen) Levine of Mystic, formerly of Waterford, passed away at home on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, after a long illness.

Sandy was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., moving to Lisbon as a teen. Sandy graduated from Norwich Free Academy and worked as a telephone operator and later a bookkeeper, before marrying and starting her family. She earned her associate's degree in accounting in 1981. She and Larry helped manage Rapid Car Wash and other family businesses. For many years, Sandy was actively involved in democratic politics in Waterford, served as a Justice of the Peace and on the Town's Ethics Commission.
After retiring, Sandy and Larry traveled extensively, visiting Turkey, China and other places in the United States.
They moved to StoneRidge in Mystic seven years ago and Sandy became very involved in that community. She served on various resident committees and took advantage of the variety of activities and clubs open to residents.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lawrence Levine; her sons, Barry (wife, Anne Jerome), Noah (wife, Linda), Seth and David (wife, Sarah); her sister, Jean Asmond; and six grandchildren, Isaac, Eli, Austin, Ethan, Sarah and Shayna.
A celebration of Sandy's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at StoneRidge, 186 Jerry Browne Road, Mystic.
