Stephanie Baier Obituary

Middletown - On June 2, 2016, Stephanie S. Baier, Esq. passed away after battling cancer. It was a brief and intense fight that she handled with grace, strength and her trademark sarcastic wit.

Stephanie was born on June 26, 1971, in New London, to Carole (Lee) Baier and the late Peter M. Baier. She was the younger sister to Lance, who once hung her out the window by her ankles, so that she could touch some ducks. Needless to say, they were partners in crime. Stephanie chose the right side of the law and eventually became an attorney.

She was a graduate of Montville High School, Eastern Connecticut University and the University of Connecticut School of Law. Stephanie found her calling when she became an attorney. Her passion for justice, combined with a love of the law, created a most effective and fierce attorney. Stephanie graduated at the top of her class at UConn School of Law in 2001. She specialized in civil defense but was an outstanding litigator in a broad spectrum of law. Stephanie learned a lot from her mentor, the Honorable Vanessa L. Bryant, USJD, and the attorneys she enjoyed practicing with over the last 10 years at the law firm of Kenny, Brimmer & Mahoney, LLC in Wethersfield. She was a successful litigator, as any one who ever tried to win an argument with her can attest.

Stephanie was a loving daughter to Carole of Uncasville, a humorous sister to Lance (Susan) of Salem and a caring aunt to Olivia. If you were lucky enough to be counted as a friend, she was as loyal as they come. Mindy Pinckney, her best friend for over 30 years can vouch for that. She also leaves behind her maternal grandparents, Edith and Al Martin of Waterford and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The Baier clan will miss her so. She is now with her beloved bulldogs, Diesel and Butler.

Per Steph's wishes, there will be no funeral, but rather a celebration of her life which will be held at a later date.

Donations in Stephanie's memory may be directed to Middlesex Hospital, Hospice and Palliative Care, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.

My dearest daughter, It's been 6 months since I held your hand and kissed your face. I still can't believe that this is my new reality. Every moment of everyday is spent thinking of you and remembering the laughter and the love we had together every day of your 44+ years. Your faith and mine has enriched both of us. Knowing you are with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ sustains me. There is joy in that faith. My love for you grows more every day. I love you❤

Dear Steph,
Today I will try my best to smile because I am the lucky one: I am lucky for many reasons, but the reasons that I'd like to touch upon today relate to you. I am lucky to have my friendship with you, I am lucky to have a second Mom like yours - Carole Baier, and I am lucky to have many, many years of memories that I can share with the world. Sometimes it feels like yesterday, sometimes it feels like long ago, and sometimes it feels like it never happened. I will miss you forever, my friend. I hope you can hear me when I talk to you, I hope you know how much you are loved and missed by so very many and last but not least, I hope you know that I turned over my rights to Paul Walker just for you.
Love,
Min

Everyday when I take my walk I talk to you and tell you how much we miss you. You were so beautiful , so smart and so funny and I ask the good Lord why you had to leave us so soon. I know that the gates of heaven have opened and you have been welcomed in, I know that your pain is no more. I know that you are happy up there in heaven with God and have been reunlted with your Dad. I ask the good Lord to watch over your Mom and to give her the strength to carry on. I know he hears my prayers. With love, Colleen Pinckney. ( Mindy's mom)

Hi Steph, It's been 13 weeks today since you went with God to a much better place. His love surrounds all of us and that gives us peace. My heart is still so full of love for you, that it's hard to breathe. Trying to fill my days with useless trivia doesn't work to try to move forward. I think of you every minute of everyday. I love you beyond understanding. Love, Mom❤

Hi Steph! It's been two full months since you left this world I still can't believe that I can't pick up the phone and share some funny things that have happened. I think about you all day, every day. I try to get distracted but nothing works. I'm going through the motions trying to find the new normal. I'll get there, it's just going to take a bit more time. I love you more than you could ever imagine❤. Love, Mom

She was a friend and simply a great lawyer and I'm very saddened by this news. We all lost one of the good ones. May your family find peace in this time.

My Sincerest Condolences to the Baier Family. I had the honor and the pleasure of working with Stephanie over the past 10 years. Whether it was on opposite sides or the same, she was a great attorney and more importantly a fantastic human being. I will miss her humor, her sarcasm and her smile.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Baier family. Stephanie was a remarkable attorney with a gifted mind and a razor-sharp wit. I will miss her sage advice, kind words, and - probably most of all - sense of humor. Carole and Lance: you are blessed to have had her in your lives, but you must know that. Going forward, whenever I see a duck, I will imagine Stephanie's brother dangling her by the ankles, and smile as I remember my friend.

Stephanie was a faithful, loving and humble member at First Baptist Church in Middletown. She loved helping in the kitchen. Her two signature dishes were broccoli casserole and bacon wrapped dates stuffed with cream cheese. Stephanie always greeted me with her beautiful smile, opened arms and asked "How are you Momma? She will truly be missed. Stephanie, we will meet in heaven again and rejoice! RIP my daughter in CHRIST. MAY GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY!
