East Lyme - Stephen Cameron Hopkins, 62, of Niantic, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.
Born Aug. 4, 1954, in Baton Rouge, La., to Frank Albert Hopkins and Louis O'Connor, he spent most of this childhood and life living in the northeast.
Stephen was an avid boater and a rabid fan of the New England Patriots. Though he cherished his large family above all else, he could often be seen patrolling the neighborhood alone atop his favorite green and yellow John Deere ride-on mower.
In 2002, Stephen started his company Complete Recycling Solutions alongside his brother, Charles and close-friend, Keith Boyea.
Stephen is survived by Susan, his beloved wife of 25 years; his only son, Nicholas; and the family's terrier, Gilligan.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.

It's a sad day after finding out that one of the kindest person has left this world. All I can say is the man treated everyone in my company with total respect and kindness and never looked down on anyone. He was not only a customer but over the years has become a friend. The man knew how to put on a summer party which he asked my wife and I to join him to meet his old and new friends. I'm so sorry for your loss SusanChris Calkins

"Bones"
And to the entire Hopkins family;
Just read about Stephan so sorry.
It's been along time since we have seen each other. We had a lot of good times at the family house in Stonington and out on the boat. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.

I can not begin to express how sad a day this is and knowthat alll the wonderful moments we shared will help with the tough times ahead As a big brother, a partner, being UncleBuck to my kids,sharing a birthday, postponing your 40th to share the day Danika was born. Moments are treasures that my kids, all your nieces and nephews will happily remember. Starting CRS, Keith, myself and you, all the excitement, frustrations, tragedy with our partner' Keith wife passing, overcoming and succeeding and all the while building an unshakeable friendship. Seeing you glow in talking about Nick, Vik and your 1'st grandchild. How much you love Honey Sue seeing you sing with Uncle Stephen with Heidee smiling that same smile as she did as a child. Your effort in having us look at the past, explaining the family tree and the importance of our loved ones that have created our history as well a glimpse into our future. My best man, I could go in and on about the times we have luckily shared and future moments that I'll miss. Thank you for being in my life, our family's life When we were young I remember the first record we got and played. It was a 45 by the Beatles. 'The Long and Winding Road". I am blessed to have shared so much with you! Thank you,I love you,will miss you
