Mystic - Violet L. McVicker, 82, of Mystic, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the Groton Regency.|
She was born on May 21, 1930, in Quincy, W.Va., the daughter of William T. and Lillie (Mullins) Bowe. Violet had been married on March 8, 1957, in Arlington, Va., to the late Walter L. McVicker, whom she met while both were serving in the U.S. Navy. Walter passed away on Feb. 17, 2003.
She was an active member of the Pleasant Valley Community of Prayer and Praise. She also had worked for the Groton Board of Education at the Groton Heights School for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed the outdoors by gardening and taking her Boston Terrier, Bailey, for walks. When not outdoors, she loved to read.
Her survivors include two daughters, Judith McVicker of Groton, Pamela Kiley, and husband, James, of Griswold; a son, Dale McVicker of Mystic; two sisters, Dolores Linville of Charleston, W.Va. and Alice Carter of Arcadia, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jason McVicker, Kristina Kiley, and Kaitlyn Terry; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Violet had also been predeceased by four brothers, Woodrow, Wayne, Milton and Kenneth Bowe.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Pleasant Valley Community of Prayer, 20 Grove Ave., Groton. Her burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Johnstown, Pa.
