Mystic - Virginia Jean (Lewis) Furnholm, 86, of Whitehall Pond, Mystic, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at her home.
She was born Dec. 21, 1925, daughter of the late County Detective William B. Lewis and Anne (Carino) Lewis. Virginia graduated from Chapman Technical High School in 1944 and attended New London Business College. She married William Furnholm in Feb. of 1952.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Shirley DuPont of Mystic; son, Captain Eric R. Furnholm, USMM and his wife, Kim Farnham, of New Haven, Vt.; and daughter, Dr. Nancy Thompson, DVM and her husband, John Thompson, of Sherborn, Mass. She was the grandmother of four lovely granddaughters, Teal and Whitney Furnholm, Sadie and Nellie Thompson; and two handsome grandsons, Stephen Furnholm and Richie Thompson. In addition, she leaves behind a special niece, Donna Bornaschella and her husband, Bob, of Mystic; nephews, Bill Madsen of California and Christopher Madsen; niece, Karen Myers; and Virginia's former husband, Bill Furnholm of Titusville, Fla.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Elizabeth Allen, Barbara Hickey, Nancy Jackson, Sarah Madsen; and a brother, the late Lt. Col. Duke Lewis.
A private family service is to be scheduled at a later date with interment following at Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.
